Media Release: Leading Teams Involved with Playford Football Leadership Alliance

Leading Teams is excited to announce its involvement with The City of Playford’s Football Leadership Alliance (PFLA) in Adelaide.

The PFLA includes the South Australian Amateur Football League (SAAFL) clubs based in the City of Playford: Eastern Park, Elizabeth, Smithfield, Central United and Angle Vale.

As part of the alliance, the five local football clubs will complete the Leading Teams Performance Improvement Program, which is typically only accessed by elite sporting teams and corporate organisations

City of Playford Mayor, Glenn Docherty said as the program is focused on developing the on and off-field leadership of the community sporting clubs in the Playford area.

“Local sporting clubs are the backbone of our communities and play a vital role in promoting and increasing healthy living opportunities,” he said

“To help do this successfully, the City of Playford is actively supporting clubs to help them be the best organisation they can be and connect in a positive and meaningful way with the local football community.”

The City of Playford, SANFL, Office for Recreation & Sport and SAAFL have formed a working party to support the alliance and monitor the outcomes.

SAAFL Chief Executive Officer, John Kernahan, said this is an excellent opportunity to promote a unique initiative in community sport.

“We have received a high level of interest and support from the five clubs identified to be involved in this program,” said Mr Kernahan.

“This is an exciting opportunity for these clubs to learn how to take charge and create an engaging and inclusive environment and culture for the whole SA Amateur Football League.”

South Australia Leading Teams facilitator, Daniel Healy, who is well known locally as a four-time premiership captain of the Central District Football Club, former AFL player at St Kilda and Port Power Development Coach, will be running the PFLA sessions.

Daniel Healy, said this program is used by AFL clubs across the country to help them establish a successful leadership and team culture.

“Leading Teams is a leadership consultancy which has included clients such as the Central District Football Club, last year’s AFL Grand Finalists Hawthorn and Sydney and corporations such as Shell and NAB,” Healy said.

“The program is a values-based approach to leadership, teamwork and culture change which encompasses an ‘all-of-organisation’ approach involving Club committees, officials, coaching group and players.”
