What is your favourite piece of leadership advice, or quote?
“You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems” – James Clear
This quote has really resonated with me in both work and life. All too often, we set big audacious goals for ourselves and our team, and when we fail to achieve them, we wonder what went wrong. But if we are honest, we never actually created a system to get to the goal in the first place. As a leader, if you want to create an environment that is high performing, you first need to invest the time in a system to help you get there.
Tell us about your culture and leadership experience?
I’ve worked in businesses of all sizes and in various industries, some that you’d class as having very strong culture and some that were more challenging environments. The one thing I’ve observed is a high performing culture doesn’t happen by accident. Those teams that are high performing work bloody hard at it. It’s vital for businesses to have a clear plan, and invest time / budget to make sure their team dynamic is at it’s best. It’s not a short term “fix it once” solution, team dynamics are constantly evolving, so there needs to be an ongoing journey of improvement. Often it’s very hard to understand what’s happening when you’re inside it, so having great partners that can help keep your team on track is extremely important.
