Student Overview
Leading Teams specialises in facilitating community programs designed to assist young people in making positive lifestyle choices. With assistance from government and non-profit organisations, Leading Teams has designed a variety of programs that address leadership, bullying, racism, communication, resilience, and goal-setting so as to assist young people in adapting, joining, and contributing to the community.
In order to reach the young people to be actively involved in our range of programs, Leading Teams deliver interactive workshops in a variety of community groups include:
- Schools
- Indigenous
- Rural and Regional
- Juvenile Justice Centres
- Sporting clubs
As a result of our commitment to quality assurance and best practice, Leading Teams has developed three criteria that must be met before we will become involved any program:
-
a) Programs must be designed on research with a sound evidence base
b) Any athlete facilitating a Leading Teams program must have undertaken training
c) All athletes must be supervised while facilitating programs
In addition to managing the delivery of school & community programs that are facilitated by elite athletes, Leading Teams also provides specialist advice to government, corporate and sporting organisations in relation to role model programs that use elite athletes as part of the delivery process.
“It is with pleasure that we provide this evaluation for the Leading Teams program, which was held at Ashley Youth Detention Centre on 10th and 11th of August, 2005. The structure used on the days, was that 2 of our groups joined together for the duration of the workshops, this being up to 10 young people participating within each. Two workshops ran simultaneously, to ensure that the provision to attend, for every resident of AYDC, was available for personal choice.
We found the Leading Teams program to be one of exceptional benefit for our target group! The programs and aims are within our brief principles of Restorative Justice and the facilitators implementation of such, addressed the DoE Essential Learnings philosophy. The topics presented included Responsibility, Consequences for action/behaviour, Goal setting, Decision making and Healthy relationship development. These were implemented in a forum of support, encouragement and reality, starting with where the young people were at and building upon that. The implementation of groupwork and individual attention was superbly received by our residents! Interaction by our residents was pleasantly forthcoming and the facilitators consistency and encouragement was impeccable in the commitment to inclusion of everyone in attendance and within all communications.
We felt that the program provided a good base of theory and practical information and activity, and the residents could grasp the concepts being presented and relate them to themselves and their life experiences, past and within their future.
A job Well Done! And without a doubt, worthy of sponsorship and funding, to enable this Program to continue the brilliant work that is being done! We certainly are keen to pursue the development of the Leading Teams program to become a regular provider here at AYDC.”
